Pool Conversion

Cost effective solution to turn an unused swimming pool into underground rainwater storage, with the scalable high strength Atlantis ® Flo-Tank® modules.

A pool conversion was carried out in Brisbane. The conversion was relatively simple. Firstly the pool was drained and dried. Washed river sand was placed in the deeper end of the pool and levelled off such that the sand was 1.7m from the top of the pool. Atlantis™ geotextile was laid over the sand and over the sides of the pool. Atlantis® Flo-tank® triple modules were placed in the pool onto the geotextile to fill that section of the pool as much as possible.

More washed river sand was placed in the remaining pool area and levelled so that it was approximately 1.3m from the top of the pool and Atlantis™ geotextile was laid over the sand and up over the sides of the pool. On to this geotextile were placed Atlantis® Flotank® double modules butted up against the triple modules and the geotextile was wrapped around all of the modules.

The overflow pipe was fitted out through the skimmer box and the inspection port, outlet and the inlet were connected through the top of the modules and the modules were covered with washed river sand, and then topped up with topsoil for landscaping.

No liner was necessary as the pool itself defines the holding capacity, which is made up of the modules and any sand surrounding the modules within the pool; therefore the pump outlet was placed in the triple modules to access the lowest storage level.

Atlantis® Flo-tank® modules are a cost effective way to convert an existing in-ground pool into water storage for re-use. This is achieved with limited damage to the structure of the pool, with the overflow pipe fitted out through the skimmer box. If at a later date you wish to re-commission the pool, you are able to easily remove the Flo-tank® modules and install a new skimmer box.
